I have two HP DL360 servers and when I try to configure useing the Smartstart 5.5 softwear, I lose the mouse and keybaord. I have tried everthing, different mouse and keyboard, resetting bios, nothing works. Please help . Thanks

5.5 is old. I would D/L the latest version from hp.com, which is 8.60.

I'll bet that handles the problem.

What generation of the DL360 do you have? The G1 may not be able to handle anything above SS 5.5. Also the G1 doesn't the the iLO. If it has remote management capabilities it would have to be through a RIB-LOE, in which case you have to plug the keyboard, mouse, and monitor into those ports (there is a special dongle required to connect the keyboard and mouse). The newer generations of the DL360 will have the iLO and then the keyboard, mouse, and monitor plug into the normal ports.

I forgot to say that my DL360 is of the old syyle, it is a G1. As far as I can tell the only SmartStart that will work with my server is SmartStart 5.5. I watched this morning as I tried to go into SmartStart 5.5 and I have Mouse and keyboard until it starts loading SmartStart. I am at a complete standstill until I can figure this out.

Do you have the keyboard and mouse connected directly to the server (no KVM)? If not, try that.

I have the keyboard and mouse connected directly to the server. It seems I lose the keyboard and mouse just as I am loading SmartStart.

Is it a ps2 mouse? I don't think the DL360 G1 had USB ports, but it's worth asking just to make sure.

No the DL360 G1 does not have USB. So I am using a PS2 mouse and keyboard.

Has it ever worked? Or is this the first attempt to boot from the Smartstart 5.5 CD?

Have you checked the BIOS settings? Anything out pf place?

I know you said it has no USB, but make sure that USB is turned off in the bios IF USB is mentioned there. Maybe it's defaulting to USB mouse & keyboard if it finds USB enabled?

glkoontz,

Are you sure you don't have keyboard control? Have you tried "tabbing" around on the screen to make selections? You have to really watch close to recognize the focus.

I know I had to do that on some of those older systems, I just don't remember why. It may have been a KVM issue, which we already know is not your issue.
