Hi,

Are MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist) certs worth doing or are they simply another way for Microsoft to generate cash.

If your employer (or the one you're aiming at) values them, they're gold... otherwides, any cert is just a piece of paper, isn't it?

They are super for teachers in training schools who want to teach the MOUS classes since they are required :)

Other than that, the knowledge obtained can be uselfull for admin assistants and help desk people.

I think the Microsoft Office Specialist certifications certainly encourage people to learn more than just the very basic skills. Most people could benefit greatly if they would learn what the various applications are capable of. Also...in my area (Pittsburgh) more and more want ads are specifying MOS as a requirement.

I don't think the MOUS certification should just be for admins and secretaries. I think a lot of workers in office jobs would benefit from the training at least. From my experience, I've seen many people in professional office jobs who don't know how to do mail merge, format a spreadsheet, create a Power Point presentation.

Of course there's LOTS more to Excel than just typing in numbers and formatting to make it look pretty.

My husband is constanty using formulas such as countif, sumif, and vlookup to visually keep ttrack of information on the job, and comparing different scenarios to make decisions.

IMHO most people do not know the hugh potential of Excel and only use it to do the most basic of skills. Requiring MOS for new hires would make the employee much more productive.

I totally agree I have one more test to take thats the Excel Expert 2000 test then I will have the master. What kind of jobs can you get with the master though??
