Is it possible to mount a Windows share on OpenServer 5.0.4? I installed Samba 2.2.5 but smbmount was not installed. I tried manually compiling Samba with the smbmount option but it errored out with a message that smbmount was Linux only. I removed Samba and installed VisionFS 1.2 that comes with OS 5.0.4. I can access the OS system from Windows but I don't see a utility to mount a Windows share on Unix. I found this article:

but it pertains to newer versions of VisionFS and the commands don't seem to be valid with VisionFS 1.2.

Is what I am trying to accomplish possible with Samba or VisionFS 1.2? If so, what I have missed.

Thanks in advance,
Morris

What Windows OS are you trying to mount? It is possible to mount Windows to UNIX using NFS, but most versions of Windows don't include NFS with the install CD. There are commercial NFS packages you can buy for Windows if one didn't come with your OS (See thread58-341713).

I don't know much about smbmount because I use NFS with my system. I only use samba for printing. You might also want to check out the last post for thread58-16235 about samba and Windows 2000. I don't know if there have been any new developments since the time of that post.

We are using Windows NT 4.0. I am going to install MS Windows Services for Unix this weekend. That should allow me to create a NFS share.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, that should do the trick. I didn't have any problems getting the NT 4.0 NFS working with my system. I currently have two NT folders mounted to my SCO server and they work great.
