I just replaced a motherboard due to agp slot problems. I have connected everything but when i press the power switch, nothing happens. I did the same thing with the old motherboard and it at least turned on. Its a slot 1 mobo 100mhz, and i know all my parts are supported by this motherboard. I tried just starting with ram cpu and vid card, and once without video card. Nothing happens when i press the button. The start up wire is plugged in correctly and everything. Please tell me any suggestions you guys have.

What mother baord is it?

Please supply more info when posting it helps others and saves guess work.

Some new boards have the CMOS jumper set to the clear CMOS setting, check the jumper and put it onto the other setting.

ECS do this with a lot of their boards as do other manufacturers.

Most motherboards have a power LED somewhere on the board that should come on as soon as the power is connected to the PSU, before the power button is pressed. If this light is not on it would indicate either a bad PSU, PSU not connected to the motherboard correctly or a dead motherboard. Help us to help you, please post back and tell us if this helped.

It is a DTK motherboard PRM-0080i eo supports up to pentium 3 800 mhz. This thing is like 4 years old so it does not have a light to indicate that the power is on. The jumper has been set to clear, and back to normal so that is not the problem. Would the frequency jumpers make it not power up?

If it's set to the wrong FSB, and/or the wrong multiplier.
If the RAM is not seated correctly.
If the CPU is not seated correctly.
If you hook up a speaker, do you get ANY beeps? Cheers,
Jim

did you check the MB manual to make sure the jumper settings are correct and that you have the front panel connector hooked to the board correctly. Thats were the power leds connect as well as were the power switch and and reset switch ect pluyg into the MB.

The problem is i got the motherboard from ebay and it didn't come with a manual, and it might just be faulty. I know i have the LED and power connectors correct, and i looked off an online manual of the motherboard and set the jumpers correctly. Even if some jumpers aren't exactly set up correctly, shouldn't it boot up, but not necessarily post? I'm sure i have the cpu and ram seated correctly.

Check if the board isn't short cirquiting on the case. Did you put the coper pins underneath the board ?

the board is lifted up above the case, and i tried it on a cardboard box, no use

just to rule it bypass your switch. take a small flathead screwdriver and cross the 2 pins that your power switch plugs into

Okay, lots of good advice, but did you check to see if you've bent any of the pins in the power socket on the MB. I have done this once, couldn't get power to the MB. Also test for power from PS. Do you have access to a test bench?

Thanks for all your replies. I have tried the screw driver short circuit technique, no luck. I also checked for bent pins, dind't find any. I know the power supply gives power because it works with my other motherboard. What is a test bench and how would it help me? And also does anyone know if CompUSA or Bestbuy would give me free help if i went there?

Do you think i should jsut return it to the ebayer and say its faulty? If its not, i'll have to pay for its return and start all over again :(

Send it back or bite the bullet and throw it away. You've spent more time trying to fix it than a new board would cost (unless you have a lot of free time on your hands, in that case have at it)

I am 14 years old so i have a lot of time after school and stuff. The board cost like 20 bucks, i might just try another on ebay, but if i'm doing somthing wrong, that won't help when i get the new one b/c i will jsut screw it up again. Thanks for replying

At this point I would say it is 9/10 that the mobo is bad... send it back

Help us to help you, please post back and tell us if this helped.
