Anyone know aught of this one?

The online ".pdf" reference manual lists the motherboard part number as "286411-001". That shows 2 DIMM slots, rather than the three the literature describe...

I have tried emailing Compaq with questions and all they can do is respond with something like: "What's your serial number? Oh, that one shipped with a PII-300MHz CPU and 48MB RAM..." but I knew that...

I don't want to feel badly towards them; but they seem unwilling or unable to answer my questions!!

It takes a Slot-1 CPU and there are companies that offer upgrades to Celeron--if you know a bit about the motherboard...

So, if any of you out there have a Presario 4850--or have a friend or relative with one--could you tell me about the BIOS, dip switches, etc.?

Many thanks!!!

you should be able to see the manufacture of the mobo by just looking at it. Look carefully! Then you can go and get the motherboard info from the manufactures web site.

If you really can't find a manufacture then my geuss would be that it is made by compaq (which they are famous for). Compaqs are terrible for this reason, they want you to go back to them to upgrade!

I guess the kicker here is that the mobo is in Vancouver, WA and I am in Dallas, TX... *grin*
