Hi guys..gals..and anyone else with more knowledge than I,

I had already posted my problem over in the "video issues" section..but I think the problem is worse than that. I've tried unplugging..replugging most if not all of the cables within the computer case. I think..and have called the local computer tech who informs me that my Sony VAIO is "notorious" for their motherboards going kaput..to say the least. I sell these machines at work..but am not super keen on the guts and what is involved in replacing a motherboard..such as if you have to replace the CPU and the motherboard..or..just the motherboard..these are things Im not sure of.

Specs of the Comp are as follows..and I appreciate any responses...Jim

Sony PCVRS 510
P4 2.8 GHZ
512 Mb of DDR SDRAM
Intel 865GV chipset

I bought it refurbished it only came with a 90 day warranty..should have bought the extended warranty..but here are the specs...credit goes to CNET for the specs (not sure about copyright..)

If you can get the original motherboard, it's just a matter of disconecting everything on the board, replace the board, plug everything back in, reset the BIOS jumper and boot. Before you panic, remove all un-needed boards, disconnect all usb devices, use one stick of memory. You want CPU, memory, keyboard, and video. Try this setup and see what happens.

Just want to say thanks micker377..I finally broke down and took my pc to a tech. He confirmed that it is indeed the motherboard and will be replacing it.

Thanks
