We are trying to locate station wire in an existing Motel 6. It is a 2 story building with ceiling access on the top floor only. About every 4th room has ceiling acces with a 66 block in the attic. We have tone on the 1st floor wall jacks and can not find it in the attic or anywhere else. There is alot of extra station wire in the attic, but no tone. Is there anywhere else the 1st floor wire would run besides the attic or do we need to run new cable to the nonworking rooms? Thanks for your help.

Usually the first floor jacks go back to the first floor comms room or electrical closet. the other option they may terminate inside or just outside each room. In an old building they can be anywhere. Sometime I tone a different pair or even a split pair. It is unusual for the first floor jack to go to the second floor, although not unheard of. Quite often there are panels in the hall often couvered by pictures or otherwise hidden. good luck.

We have two telco closets and both have feed cable but no station cable. As mentioned above, we finally found station cable in the attics for the second floor, but nothing for the first. And since they are on 50-pr feeds, only one pr is extended so putting tone on a second pr is not working. I was just hoping that someone out there had worked in older Motel 6's and knew any tricks - although most of the ones I have been in have 'normal' wire - rooms going to a cross connect somewhere - just not this one.

Did you take the jack off the wall at look at the cable connected?

use a test meter like a fluke micro scanner and measure the distance on the spare pair. This will give you an idea how far away the next terminal is.
