Hi guys,

I have a customer running an IPO500v2 8.0 with DECT R4 (IP). According to the DECT installation manual of 8.0 a maximum of 120 DECT phones is supported.

After some testing I realized that you can actually add more than 120 DECT phones if you open the config with a newer version of Manager (9.1) - if you open it with a 8.0 manager it won't let you add more than the aforementioned 120.

Does anyone know if you can actually run more than 120 DECT phones at the same time or is there some kind of "hardcap" built into IPO/DECT R4 other than the limitation of manager 8.0?

Thx in advance :)

As of 8.1 FP1 they increased the number of handsets to 384 on IP500. In 9.1 you can have 400 handsets on Server Edition.

DECT R4 System Capacity Increase
The DECT R4 suite delivers high-quality wireless voice communication to employees
who roam within a building or campus. It offers all the benefits of the DECT standard,
including high security, scalability, low power consumption and long talk/standby
times.
The DECT R4 solution capacity is increased with this release of IP Office. The
maximum number of radio base stations is increased from 32 base stations to 128
base stations. The base stations can be any mix of IP base stations and ISDN base
stations (with the use of IP DECT Gateway) with the total not exceeding 128.
For IPBL only installations the maximum number is increased from 2 to 8.
The maximum number of IP DECT handsets supported in IP Office increases from
120 handsets to 384 handsets.

Not positive, but if it were my customer I would be upgrading to a minimum of 8.1 before trying to over configure it.

Well, if it's not supported I wouldn't put in more than 120 even if it's possible, more likely a bug in 8.1+ manager that it doesn't cap it for 8.0.

If the customer needs more than 120 handset it's a perfect reason to upsell him to a newer release.

For the price of half a IP DECT 3720 handset he can upgrade so what is the point....

Well, I always though the limitation is done in Manager and not in IP Office firmware, the "old" DECT was said to support max 64 handsets but we have deployed systems with upto 130 handsets without a issue.

We have a customer with more then 50 detewe base stations and couple of hundred dect phones.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I had a customer that wanted to have more than 120 handsets. It was short before 8.1 FP1 came out. DECT system was in provisioning mode and I was able to register a new phone. It had been created in IP DECT but seconds later the phone became unregistered again.

Reason was that the DECT GW created the DECT extension in IPO and IPO deleted the same extension immediately. So it got deleted in IP DECT as well.

So I think IPO doesn't allow it. Did you only create new extensions in Manager but didn't merge the config?

He's currently running with 124 registered 3725 simultaneously so yeah, it's working so far ;)
