Hello All, I read earlier threads about those who are/were suffering from extremely slow startup on winXP but once startup was complete everything is fine. I am trying to help fix my inlaws Dell 4600 which is suffering from these same symptoms. I have run spyware, adware and virus checks from safe mode and have not been able to identify a problem there. It seems as though there is some issue with Norton Antivirus and or Norton Internet Security but not sure. Everything in the startup box seems to pop up except those 2 items and if you try to complete any tasks before they are loaded it takes a ridiculous amount of time. The machine has plenty of RAM and seems to run great once it is loaded but the loadup is getting harder and harder for them to deal with. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly GREATLY! appreciated.

Thanks-d

are the norton antivirus and norton internet security from the same year? if not, (or even if so), different norton products often overlap certain tasks, and when both programs (especially in the case of norton) try to interact, bad things happen. even if there is no technical problem between the two programs, It has been my experience that Norton products are generally buggy when they aren't the only similar product running. I suggest removing one (or better, both) and see if that helps you. personally, I find Avast! to be the best antivirus and Antigum Outpost pro to be the best firewall. good luck to you.

I have had simular issues with Norton versions before 2003
and SP2. They dont work well together. I could remove one or the other and speed up the process.

check your event log's.. i am guessing home has that.. and make sure there are no serious errors before you mess with Norton.. i was getting that on a pro box.. and there was some sort of startup error... so i ended up doing a re-install.. but it may vary well be Norton... i would just remove it then reinstall it..
