Hi

Anyone able to recommend free and user friendly tools that can used use to monitor oracle8i database on HP UX (Table ,tablespace SGA ,instance, etc).

Thanks in advance.

The tools I know of run on Windows clients but should be able to monitor non-Win servers.

For free, there is Monet from Guy Harrison:
(His Xplain is great - same site).

I use Quest's Spotlight - expensive but worth it. I reckon it paid for for itself in two weeks.

TOAD (also by Quest) includes basic stuff, but not much more than Monet (at least that's how it was when I last looked a few years ago).

Hi fatchoy

Why don't you use Oracle DBA studio tool?
If you have an Oracle Database, it is the best tool I know for windows clients.
It is indipendent from the server operating system, so I think it is the best choice.
I don't if it is free, or how much it costs, but you can find every information you need on Orale site.
May be you can just have it inside the Oracle Database package.

Greetings

DBA Studio comes with the oracle server 81 CD. Its part of the installation and its free. Regards,

As far as I can see DBA Studio only gives "static" information. If you want to go further (buffer miss rates, waits etc.) the tools I mentioned above can start to tell you what is going on in your db NOW. (The info is there for free in the sys.v$.... views - not very user-friendly - assembler programmers prefer this route!).

Hi,
The 9i version of DBAstudio ( now part of Enterprise Manager Console) has dynamic info on all current sessions and the database itself..

I know this is the 8i group, but a 9i client ( specifically 9.2 ) can be used with 8i databases and the newer versions of the toolset make it worthwhile , if possible, to upgrade the client.
