What do you all use to monitor stuff? CM, CMS, AES, AAEP, AAM, SBC, SMGR, gateways etc - the list grows these days...

Just SNMP? Any tools you would recommend? Preferably freeware of course [bigglasses]

So i guess syslog programms like kiwisyslog are your freeware options , we have a in-house application based on Nagios that is really sleek , but its far from free , like all things you really get what you pay for , all the avaya applications have the ability for syslog ... below is a link to the Avaya syslog implementation guide

Not that they mean a thing anymore , get a brain dump pass the test crash the system.

I may be behind but the last time I looked, Nagios was free and there are some Avaya specific plug-ins. Not sure if there is one for the new Communication Manager MIB.

There are so many tools. Even the basic Avaya tools such as ASA have some pretty neat reporting.

SNMP is SNMP is SNMP. You can get SNMP Traps but the key is to be able to filter, sort, and prioritize. There is a tremendous amount of data. Look for these features in any Network Monitoring tool.

You might also want to look at implementing the Avaya Diagnostic Server (ADS) which free (assuming you are on a current release). Just requires an e-mail to Avaya to obtain a license. Does pretty well for looking at voice quality issues.

Hey if nagios is free ... go for it .... i may well be off the mark but i was pretty sure that the application was licensed , on a feature level.

We use Prognosis. Not free though

Does a lot more than Snmp poll and trap.

Take Care

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.
