Our IMS queue on exchange 5.5 will sometimes fill up with about 30 e-mails waiting to be delivered, this is caused by our router going a bit iffy after a few days of use (waiting on fix from supplier) but I need something to warn us when this queue starts to fill up since the server is on a KVM and we can't keep the switch on the server all the time (hence, can't use the IMS graph)

Is there a feature in Exchange 5.5 or a plug in that will send an internal mail (not affected by router problem) to the network admin when a queue reaches a particular size of if a mail has been sat there for over a few hours?

Any adivce appriciated.

Sure, just use Performance Monitor from another workstation to monitor the appropriate parameters on your Exchange server.

Depending on which queue (in/outbound) you want to measure, you'll pick something like MSEXCHANGEIMC:Queued Outbound or Queued Inbound.

You could setup an alert within perfmon to let you know when this happens...

Hope this helps...

Could you please point me towards an article on how to set this up please? I'm pretty new to WinNT and not too sure where to begin.
Cheers

Is there no way of monitering the IMS queue from a Win XP or Win 98 system that is connected to the network. That article isn't exactly what I needed, altough it has showed me some other stuff which was helpfull.

You could always share out the \imcdata\in and \out folders on your IMS server - these are the holding areas that the IMS puts the messages in that are in the queue (one file per message) - then you can see how many messages there are in the queue from any PC on the network. Share them as Read Only, though!
