my friend has a wang monitor. When it's switched on after the PC is booted up, it takes a while before anything becomes visible. That, they can live with. The problem is that every few minutes the monitor switches on and off. You can hear it clicking as it does this. Why is this happening? Is the monitor overheating or ?

Sounds like it could be overheating or a faulty power supply. Have they wiggled the supply around to see if there's a short?

no, what should I be looking for exactly when I do that?

Well when you get it on, just wiggle the cord around and see if it flickers on and off, if not, it is most likely overheating. What are the specs on it?

Try the monitor on another PC and another power outlet somewhere else in the house.

It's either the signal coming from the PC, or the monitor itself.
