anyone seen what there engineers use to test wan circuits
i have seen two engineers use a custom app that allows you to send 10 50 or 100 Mb file , and logs the results of the transfer to calculate the speed etc

any ideas , does anyone have or use this sort of thing ?

ive never used it personally.. but one of my customers was recently using smart bits to generate traffic on the network.. it seemed to be very customizable via speeds and precedence levels etc..

I have seen people use "Wan Killer" by solar winds?? this one particular customer was using this because they could'nt figure out why there new 10 meg ckt was only producing minimum download speeds (ftp). There issue however was window sizing.

the engineers i saw using this app were BT people in the uk know who they are , (scum of the earth ) only joking some of them do have hearts , clearly this is an in house app and i was just wondering if anyone else had seen it or maybe even used it ?
