I think I've searched just about everyone possible so far on this issue and I can't find an answer. I purchased about 5 old HP-UX 9000 machines recently (for educational purposes), however I was not able to puchase the monitors with them. I have tried a couple decent 17" PC monitors at home, but I get no display on either of them.

Can ANYONE out there give me some advice on what I need to do to get a monitor working with these machines? Do I need an adapter (if so any idea where to get one, and what kind), or do I need an HP monitor to go along with my machine (I hope not, since they would cost me about 10 times more than I bought the machine for in the first place :)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

you could probably get by with any old vt100 monitor, you won't have the keyboard definitions but....

alternatively - use a pc, serial cable from com1 to console port on HP box
If this is a 700 series, graphical configurations can be set at the BOOT_ADMIN prompt by entering the command "monitor". The types are all fixed freq. settings. ( You have to know what freq. setting is required by the monitor you are replacing. (PS usually this has to be done before replacing the monitor. )

Since you did not do this first. Wait for the keyboard lights to flash then hit TAB. The system will attempt to query you for this information.

I have never done this, this information comes from the HP user guide for 9000-700.
Good Luck.
You can use any pc monitor and the req is to be 76 or about hor, and 80 or more vertical refresh rate, some 19 or 21 and brand name monitor do have a higher refresh rate show about. HP-UX this is worth then Sun computer. but better graphic!!
