We recently purchased a Gateway mini tower running Windows 7. I hooked up a LG Flatron monitor to it and have had no problems until recently. It works fine for hours (sometimes days) and then it loses power and shuts totally off. I then disconnect it from the Gateway and hook it up to Dell system and it works. I the drivers are up to date and I changed the settings to never turn the monitor off. Is there a compatibility issue? It works fine for a long time and then shuts off. Is it a power supply issue in the tower?

I assume you mean the monitor shuts off? Please clarify.

What happens if it's left on the Dell - does it exhibit the same symptoms? What happens if you disconnect and then reconnect it the tower? What happens if you reboot the tower leaving the monitor connected? what happens if you power cycle the tower?

Yes... the monitor shuts off. not the tower. It still stays off after reboot. How do you power cycle th tower?

Does the monitor stay in standby or go to power off state?

How do you power cycle th tower?
Select shutdown, not restart. When it has shut down disconnect the tower (not the monitor) from the mains. Power up and restart.

If the monitor behaves the same on another machine it is a monitor fault - it cannot respond to a resume signal from the computer.

If it behaves on the Dell as you would expect I would suspect a fault with the graphics card or on board graphics on the Tower. If you are using the Towers onboard graphics why not buy a graphics card and disable the onboard graphics?

You say you connected the monitor to a different computer and it worked fine. When you did so, did you also disconnect the monitor from the a/c power before connecting it to the other computer? If you did, try disconecting the monitor from a/c then reconnecting it, without switching computers. Also, try doing the same with the connection from the computer to the monitor. Try doing both in combination. Also in combination with power-cycling the computer as above. What thing works will tell you whether the computer or the monitor is at fault. If it is the computer, it could be the video card as mentioned above. Try that fix.

I had an LG Flatron (CRT) for many years and never had an issues with it. I have used it under every WIN OS except WIN7 so it could be a video driver compatibility issue. Have you tried a different monitor to rule that out?

The best barcode software, labels, tags and thermal ribbons.

Did you use a new power cord when you installed the Flatron on the new Gateway ? Old power cords lose their springiness (grip), and the connection to the PC can get warm over time, and open up and lose the connection. When you used it with no problem with the Dell, was it connected with the same power cord as with the Gateway ? With the same video cable ?
