Monitor Internet withOUT Proxy

Hi all,

I have around 40-50 users and I need to monitor the way that they are using the internet... for example, what time, what websites, what dates. I just need something to log this information then I can work on it after that....

My main problem is that I can not setup a proxy server as currently all my clients feed into the switch, which then goes to the firewall, then to the modem. So I can not setup a proxy server as the clients dont have to pass through the proxy server.

Is there any software that could do this for me? I have a Sonicwall SOHO3 (50) firewall.

Any advise will be great.

Why can't you put a proxy server in? There is nothing stopping you from denying web access to the network on the firewall and just allowing the proxy server out, thus forcing the clients to use the proxy. We do it all the time!

Exactly Chris... and if your firewall supports it, you could have all your Internet bound traffic routed through a proxy automatically without having to manually configure each client.

I've done this with IP Tables and Squid and it's working perfectly.

i agree with chrisac..you cn stil setup proxy seer with ur current setup..use squid..it's good..proxy will increase speed of ur client when they are browsing....

try to read and research how to do it...

You're firewall may have the option to log IP traffic. Failing this, if your switch supports it, you can setup a port to direct all traffic to, and then run Ethereal, or a similar piece of software.
