Hope someone can help with this, here it goes...

my pc monitor(compaq fp 7317)is completly blank,no lights,no power nada.
I turned on the monitor 1 morning and the screen was violently blinking/flashing...i tried the cables and they were secure...at this point i could see the light monitor was flashing from green to orange...i turned the computer completely off, went back an hour later, turned it on and there was no power at all.

Ive tried the power cable in another monitor and its fine

any ideas?

thnks

Hook up the monitor to another computer see if it comes on. If it does its something on your computer, if it does not , chunk it unless its under warranty. If its under warranty get an rma from the company and have it replaced. Sounds like your monitor just died.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Its only over a year old and hp said the warranty for the second year is with the shop where i got it!the shop i got it in dont seem to agree!!!
surley it can be fixed?

If the shop doesnt agree to the terms of the manufacturer, contact the manufacturer and tell them as a legal battle may be arising but in the mean time hp themselves should let you rma it with them. As for fixing it yourself, cheaper usually to buy a new one then to fix it however being under warranty I would get it replaced instead of buying a new one.

well i'm expecting a call from the shop,so i'll wait a little longer...

thx for the advice

n/p do keep us posted on the results. Also may I ask who this "shop" is that isnt agreeing to replace ?

I live in spain(irish)and the consumers here dont seem to be very important LOL...SERIOUSLY THIS COUNTRY IS F UP!!
to late for me,i married one!

carrefour the name of the shop/supermarket

@Yankor - as far as I know, there is a 2 yrs warranty within the EU, so the SHOP has too cover it...
Spain

Your rights in case of defect products
Directive 1999/44/EC on the sale of consumer goods and associated guarantees has been implemented by Spain.

As a result of this legislation, all consumers, who buy goods in Spain have the same to a minimum guarantee of 2 years on products. Within the first six months of purchase, any lack of conformity or defect shall be presumed to have existed at the time of delivery, unless proved otherwise. After the first six months, it is up to the consumer to prove that the lack of conformity existed at the time of delivery.
Within this period of 2 years the consumer is entitled to have the goods brought into conformity free of charge. In the first place, the consumer may require the seller to repair the goods or he may require the seller to replace them, unless this is impossible or disproportionate.
Any repair or replacement shall be completed within a reasonable time and without any significant inconvenience to the consumer, taking account of the nature of the goods and the purpose for which the consumer required the goods. If this should not be possible the consumer is entitled to ask for a price reduction (smaller defects) or to have the contract rescinded.

Voluntary guarantees given by a producer do not restrict the statutory rights of consumers.

Exchange
Unless goods are faulty, a consumer does not have a legal right to an exchange. It is at the trader’s discretion. Therefore it is important to verify before buying, if the trader allows an exchange, and to obtain a written confirmation – e.g. a note on the original receipt.
In bigger and important shops exchange is a common practice although the consumer has to ask for the change within 15 – 30 days after the purchase.

Yankor,
Did you ever bring the monitor to the shop so they could at least test it and verify that it is the problem and not the PC?

thx ben, that is a little comforting...I'm still wait for the call.
mainegeek,i did bring it back to the shop, and guess what...they could'nt find a cable to try it.

thx everyone for the input and i'll keep you all informed...

update

the shop agreed to send the monitor to hp...but they also said that they think a power serge caused the problem and if so, i must pay the cost of the repair!!

just wondering if anyone thinks this was a power serge that caused the problem?

If you do not have your computer on a surge protector then 98 percent chance yes. No computer should be running without a surge protector. Did you have it on one?
