Mom needs Windows/IE Help! 1

A couple of days ago, I caught my son using the computer for something he obviously wasn't supposed to be using it for: surfing internet pornography. While he's been disciplined, the site he was visiting hasn't, and it has been STAPLED as our "Home Page" in the Internet Properties section, so whenever our browser launches, it appears. But let me tell you the TOUGH PART!

I am very windows/ie experienced, so I reset the bad URL to "about:Blank" and various other URL's. However, EVERYTIME the computer is re-started, the bad URL returns as the "Home Page"! I even tried following the 'Tek-Tips IE6 Homepage Rewrite' suggestions -- all of them -- and it still didn't work!

I am completely out of ideas, and in need of expert assistance! Please help!

DADOG'S post will get rid of it and this will keep it from happening again. To prevent further problems,

Correct your home page to the one you prefer, then immediately do the following:

Backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Right-click on the Internet Explorer key, choose new>Key, name it Control Panel.
Right-click on the Control Panel, chose new>DWORD value, name it Homepage. Right-click
on Homepage, choose modify and type in the number 1.

This should lock your home page, so no other web site can change it.

Then navigate here and verify the homepage is correct:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
look for the Start Page entry.

Hi CyberMom, - I had this happen to me while going through my email. I had my email set up to display page as I check new mail. Even though I deleted the email rubbish right away, it automatically set my default page to their porn site, AND even threw on a few extra goodies, for good measure! I also discovered an icon (shortcut) on my desktop, AND the darn thing also threw on a wallpaper of nude close-ups on my desktop background! This I discovered weeks later when I was looking to change my background.
It may be that in fact, your son never even visited that place, as I didn't. (and wouldn't go there intentionally) Maybe it's yet just another piece of trash from the mail bin that caused it? (check your desktop options as well. You may also have some nasty surprises.)

Fellas ... I have tried it all. I have gone through the registry, win file, and just about anything else you could think of and have come up empty. And the problem continues. I have never encountered anything like this before ... there is simply no way to rid of this.

Is there a file for "Internet Properties" that can be manually edited? Could the URL/script be hidden in there? Am I overlooking the obvious? I've tried EVERYTHING!

CyberMom, the default homepage can be manually changed by opening your browser, select Tools from the menu, then go to Internet Options, and should work by manually changing the default page from there. Don't give up. I empathize with you.

It's been fixed! The software link that was provided not only allowed me to change it to what I wanted, but it "Detected Malicious Code" and after I selected the "KILL" option (which is actually there!), the graphic of the soldier says, "Malicious Code has been Eradicated, Sir!"

WOW! What a program! I am sending the author a donation right now!

Just wondering if you run any virus scan utilities like McAfee or Norton and if you keep them updated weekly. I am a frequent porn site patron(lol) and my McAfee goes nuts sometimes when I maybe get redirected to an evil site. It has sometimes detected a couple of trojans that when I researched what they were, the database stated the viruses are the kind that change your home page. I just have virus scan delete them with no problems after!
