Hooked up a known good audio input to the jack on the back of a 403. Prior programmer had disabled MOH somehow, and even with live input to the jack, no MOH present with putting a caller on hold, or *34 either.

Can anyone think of how prior programmer would have "disabled" MOH so that live input to jack on back of 403 would not work?

A MOH wav file uploaded to the system will disable the moh Jack, We have found at leaset one site where the customers network trafic was fooling the IPO into thinking this has had happened
try rebooting the IPO while isolated from the network
if MOH still fails then you probably have a faulty unit.

Thanks for the thoughts...

There is no musiconhold.wav file in the Manager directory. A reboot has been done, but it was done from within Manager. I assume you are speaking then of power cycling the 403 to accomplish the reboot?

Also, could it be that a musiconhold.wav file with dead air was uploaded and then deleted from the Manager folder, and now the IP office is confused?

One other thing... are there settings in the hold/queue timeouts that could be set eternally so that MOH never gets a chance to work? If so, which ones would cause this effect and where do I look?

There are two similar jacks in the back. Are you sure you plugged the audio input into the right place?

First check if the connection at the back is in the proper connector. Check if there is a Holdmusic file under the manager. If this is all OK, then do a reboot, check with the TFTP log file if he gets any file from an other location, We had the same problem in combination with a 3com wireless access point, the access point replyed the boot request

Have you tried for testing only, not using a LIU, just gab a normal Mono connector from your PC sound card kit and try that. This will rule out that you may have a faulty LIU.

One thing to check is the MOH input plug. If you have a ground on the IP Office (i.e. on a 16 port analog trunk module) and the signal for the MOH is coming in on the "sleeve" of the plug it will be grounded, thus no music on hold. At the point where your wire attaches to your MOH source reverse the two wires and then check.
