I have a system that has been installed for some time in a 5 slot frame (3 Cards) ACS Processor, Line/Extension Expansion, and Voice Mail. Last week by accident I removed the memory batteries while the system was turned off. By By setup. When I powered the system back up the expansion card and voice mail would come up for a few seconds (Green Power LED) and the power back down. The ACS came up OK and stays up. All of its functions appear to work properly. I reinstalled an older system backup and most everything seems to work except I can't get the two cards to come up. I tried reseating the boards several times but that has not helped. Any ideas??

no programing involved on the other two modules .

try resetting the modules again , push hard near the top of the module

if resetting doesn't do it . it could be a bad processor I have seen ACS processors that wouldn't recognize anything beyond the ACS itself .

I pulled the modules and reseated them. I checked the connectors and they seem to be fine (No bent pins, missing, etc.). So here's what I tried next, I took the 308 module in slot 2 and moved it to slot 1 (with power off). I pulled the VMS module 5 out and left it out. Then I powered up the system and the 308 came up (LED stayed on). Powered down the frame and moved the 308 back to position 2 and powered it back up, still OK (LED Green). Then I powered it down one more time and slid the VMS back in to Slot 5 and repowered the system once again. This time all three modules stayed working. When I did some tests I found that the 308 module in slot 2 now thought that its extensions started with 26 as if the ACS thinks there is (2) 308's one in slot 2 and one in slot 4. Only problem is there is only one 308 in Slot 2. Of course the VM seems to work only when any incoming line rings the AA answers and xfers the call to VM. The system seems very confused but worked fine prior to removing (accidentally) the memory batteries with the unit powered off. Now I'm confused.

You really need to set it up this way:

Slot 1, 308
Slot 2, Voice Mail
Slot 3 (or "P", if you want to be pendantic), ACS

Finally, you need to program Hunt Group 7 for the voice mail ports, which will vary depending on which voice mail (Partner Mail VS or Partner Messaging), and how many ports on the license card or port expansion card.

Partner Messaging won't come up without the ports programmed.

Thanks, I give that a try although when I first got the system over a year ago I think I had it that way but it wouldn't configure correctly. Maybe I was not programming it correctly. It has been working ever since and yes I do have VMS programmed HUNT Group7 with the correct ports (4) to make it work. Very strange maybe I was working around an issue all this time.

More info...After making the changes suggested above I have the system up and working again. Now I remember why I moved them in the first place. The lines/ports assigned for PVMS (4 Port system) is supposed to be (With 308C in Slot1 and VMS in Slot2) 26,27,28,29 according to my manual (V-4), but it turns out to get the VM to work properly you need to enable 28,29,30,31. Once I did this it worked fine. I started to look at this some time ago and then gave up and just offset the VM Ports by two in each configuration no matter where the VMS board was in the 5 slot chassis. Thanks again...

Then you must have VS mail, which uses the last 2 or 4 ports, depending on the expansion card installed
