I have a Windows 2000 Server in our small network that encounter some problems using IE based on a Windows Update that did not have a digital signature.(from reading various online postings) I was able to restore a SysState backup, however only users with 'Administrator' rights can use IE, any other type of user just gets errors.

Can someone tell me how to resolve this problem, I can't have all the users with Administrator rights, but they need to access IE on server for a special project.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When ever I try right clicking "Start menu button" explorer.exe comes up with "Windows Explorer has encountered a prblem and needs to close. This problem first started after downloading the most recent MS hotfix.

In your first posting you are describing a problem with Internet Explorer, while in your second posting you describe a problem with the windows explorer (file viewer). Does the problem effect both or just the (file viewer)?

You can always right click on the explore.exe file and check the properties of the file, specifically the security tab and the sharing tab.....

Sorry for the confusion I am working on two different items. The problem is clearly an issue with IE. Basically anyone without Administrator rights cannot use IE.

I just created another 'User' contained only in the 'User' group. When I signed on with that user, I get a webpage with no text. For example if you goto msn.com, what I see (signed on as this user) is just colored bars that would be surrounding text, but no text. I do see pictures. The system restore apparently resolved the problem with the hotfix, but now I cannot get regular users to see the web properly. Is there any service or property change I need to make for the 'user group?'

Try doing a repair on IE by going to Control panel and Add Remove Programs. When you click to uninstall it will ask you if you want to repair it. Select repair and try that.
