Hello everyone

I'm assisting some of my installer colleagues this week in preparing a large CS1000e system with a variety of applications. One of the guys has the "soul destroying" job of entering in around 1000 new Call Pilot users and this is currently being completed one entry at a time.

It's made worse in that the customer has defined many varibles such as email address's, access levels, names etc.
As I always tryed to use Procomm Plus for mass input of source data within the LD structure, I was wondering if there was a way of doing this for the Call Pilot system by accessing the Server's database?.

Does the Call Pilot use a database file that can be modified via the use of copying and pasting etc from the customers spreadsheet and then uploading into the Call Pilot saving hundreds of hours number crunching?.

Has anyone been brave enough to do this and if so, can they let me know please?.

You can use auto add from CallPilot Manager. I use it all the time and have never had a problem. I only do first name, last name and mailbox. Below is an exert out of the Administrators guide explaining the procedure.

Using Auto Add to add a group of mailboxes in a single operation CallPilot Manager leads you through the steps required to add a group of mailbox owners to the CallPilot database.
Note: Do not use this feature during high traffic periods to avoid slowing server performance.
Information you need:
• the user creation template that is set up for the new mailbox owners
• the name and path of the formatted data input file that contains new mailbox owner information
• if the input data file is an Excel spreadsheet: the name of the worksheet
on which the data is stored
• if the input data file is a text (CSV) file: the name of the file
Note: The system assumes that the first row of your Excel worksheet is the header row — the row which contains the column headings. The system assumes that the second row of your worksheet contains your data. Ensure that the first row contains your column headings so that the system uploads all of your data, starting with the second row.
The input file must include all information that is mandatory for creating a new mailbox. Required data includes
• first and last names of the mailbox owner
• mailbox number (extension DN)
Getting there: User ? Auto Add

Hello KiwiOz07

Many thanks for your reply. We had already tried out your suggestion, but it only allows basic input of the 3 main columns such as Mailbox, first name, last name.

What we need to do, is to input other colums of data and this customer requires email address's along with some other bespoked requirements, hence my reason about another way of accessing the Call Pilot's database.

Unfortunately to access the database directly you would need an undisclosed username password which is only at Nortels ETAS disposal.

Hello DJ4020.

The question is now if this is still possible to complete?. I'm guessing that you are referring to one of the 2 main support level passwords which shouldn't be a problem for me to obtain.

I just need to know if this will work?.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

I would recommend caution, even if you did get passwords to the database. Nortel populates several tables/fields in a simple change. I do not know of any resource that would even document what those changes were that anyone outside of ETAS would have. I used to work for Nortel in the Symposium side. I wouldn't give out that kind of info and still will not due to the fact one mistake and your restoring from scratch. But if your willing to experiment you would need to first reverse engineer the whole database print out all tables fields, then go back to CallPilot manager make your changes or add then verify table fields changed. Then you would need to build a script that would allow you to input this data from whatever source compatible with whatever scripting tool your are using. IMHO I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. But thats just me. . .

Hello DJ4020

Many thanks for the quick reply back again today. I'm cetain the database used to store the data is on the D drive in the Nortel folder. I'm going to see if there are any software programs available that could somehow remember the key strokes used to create e.g. a mail box using reference from a source file such as word or excel etc.

Although it's a new installation and not yet live, I do agree with you about the risks of corrupting the Call Pilot system and would prefer the input of data to be carried on as it is now.

Many thanks

David

You may want to take another look at Auto Add.
You can add much more than just three columns of data.
You will see options in the dropdown for each column after you upload the file. There are at least these items (from the online help):
Mailbox Number
Location Name
Last Name
First Name
Mailbox Password
Middle Initial
Department
MMFS Volume
1st DN
2nd DN
3rd DN
4th DN
5th DN
6th DN
7th DN
8th DN
Revert DN
RN Target Number
Title
Comments
Callback DN
MWI DN
Fax Printing DN

There are more when you actually use the dropdown.
You will still have to set up templates and COS's but you would have to do that anyway.

Having just come back from class, Stanley is right. You should be able to add almost anything through auta add that you can put in a mailbox by using the drop downs. I have done it with about 700 users and it worked wonderfully and I had to get most of the info that Stanley Mentions, plus a few more.
