I am new to the Unix world and I need to install an internal modem in a Unix box. what should I be aware of? I have worked with Linux before and it seems to find the right drives for most anything that you put in it is Unix like that or am I going to have to install driver manually?

thanks

My best guess is that it won't work.

Where did you get the modem??

Stuart,

Today it is my job to do a very similar thing.
I have a need to install an internal modem into a B50 running 4.3.

Like you I have a Linux background. Also some SCO.

The first thing ( i think ) is to choose a modem wisely.

The USR 2977 is a PCI modem that is a hardware modem. No driver is needed past the normal RS232 driver. Any Win or Lin modem will only cause pain. I have over 400 of these modems in the field working on a daily basis for remote access. This modem costs around $37 - $54 depending on the deal you can find.

So, if we have a similar problem now,

Any ideas ?

Thanks,
John G. Lynn
