I have a US Robotics 56k Fax Int Plug and Play
Modem in Windows 98 (2nd ed.)

I turn off the speaker (slide bar) in the contrpl panel, but I can still hear the dial-out and the squealing tones?

Ant suggestions as to how to shut off the speaker? Should I look in the registry for the modem initialization string, and add another command (hayes?) to shut off the speaker at initialization?

the modem uses it`s own speaker for the noice you here.
you can turn it off in the modem properties.
Not sure where but it is there.
Normally says low , medium or high
