Modem Not working 2

Hi all, Can any body tell me, is it possible that some computers will simply not work with a modem. ?

As Comtech said, .... YES but.

There are many reasons that a MODEM will not work, or seems it doesn't work with a computer and vice versa.

1. Faulty cable (Not a 1-1 type or not providing RTS,CTS,DSR,DTR handshaking lines).
2. Faulty driver.
3. COM port not setup correctly (or burned COM port).
4. Another application takes control of the COM port.
5. COM port is disabled from BIOS.
6. You made a custom cable using a 25pin female on the PC end and you hoked it up to the CENTRONICS-Printer port (stupid but i've seen it happen ....)

Add to that, a winmodem(softmodem) in a system that doesn't have MMX.
A Compaq, HP, PB, or other proprietary modem installed in any other system.
A modem upgrade (new hardware) with DUN still trying to use the OLD hardware's driver/settings. (Improper installation procedure, aka RTFM)

Actually, the phrase should read, "Are there some modems that simply won't work with a computer?". Cheers,
