Hi,

I have a small problem,
If I don´t turn on the modem before XP starts it´s impossible to dial internet.
If the modem is on before XP starts everything works fine, it happens on different computers and different modems.
Anyone have a solution for this problem??

Thanks in advance

I presume the modem is not usb connected. If this is the case, XP c annot detect it if it is not on when XP boots up.
The only solution I know of is to start the modem before you start your computer -- or simply leave the modem on.

Hi,

The modem is not USB, so there is no solution but to start the modem before CP?

I have a serial modem for remote telnet sessions that I use rarely and only turn on when i need it, and it works *fine*. I should say it is seen, and dials and what not. It has other issues that are XP related, due to drivers and such, but it is a GRC external serial modem on com1, and I have no issues with detection once windows is on. As a matter of fact I prefer not to shut down if possible ever. Of course that is not possible, so I opt for once in while, mainly due to XP growing pains, i.e. crashes.

Hi
I had the same problem with my Serial modem and on advice from a friend sorted this problem out by installing the Modem twice. I don't understand why this should work, but it has been successful on at least 3 PC's that I am aware of.
Another option which might save the time of a reboot, (I think) is to go into Device Manager and refresh that device (Modem).
Good luck
