I am working on a gateway flexatxstc bro essential 800C. It's been upgraded to Win XP pro. There seems to be some conflict with the modem. After installing AOL 9 optimized SE, it hangs while looking for access numbers.
When I query the modem, after a reboot, it tests alright. I tried connecting to my work RAS and it connects ok, but when I disconnect it hangs the program, and any other dial out program I use after that until I reboot. The computer also hangs on reboot or shutdown. I have checked for spyware and adware and nothing seems to be present.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

wile666,

My AOL account & software ended up in the trash over a year ago. 'bout when 9.0 took over my machine.

Hopefully, there is another contributor that can shed some light on yur problem.

My experience AOL grabs control and is stubborn about allowing other to access. Had to invoke AOL to use the internet even with a broadband direct connection.

I finally disabled everything that was AOL related that was running on startup. Now it works great. I can even connect to AOL now. And of course the system boots and shutsdown quicker.
Thanks.

wile666,

Thanks for posting back. Hate to be down on a product but that was my experience.

Glad that you got it working through looking for where it had interjected itself.

I'm upgrading this very same unit to WIN2000. Whre did you find drivers to support PCI interface?

I'm not the one that upgraded it. Someone installed XP on it and everything seems to work alright. All the upgrades I have done though to either 2000 or XP have run without any driver problems. The only time I had a problem was with an overclocked system. Once I took it back to it's correct clocking it was fine.
