I have a machine running both win98 & NT workstation. win98 sits on the primary hd while NT workstation sits on the primary slave. An internal modem was installed and win98 recognized it and installed it on com 4 port. However, NT could not point to the same com 4. As a matter of fact, it provided only two options, com 1 and com 2. Is it possible to have NT utilize the same com port as win98 or it really doesn't matter. There is only one modem anyway. Any response will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Windows 98 is a plug-n-play OS, while NT is not. You will have to make sure your bios is configured for "non-pnp OS" so the modem will be given hardware addresses by the bios. Then you should be able to manually add the COM port and address the modem. This is assuming it is not a winmodem. if it is a winmodem, you will have to run the "setup.exe" from the installation. Even then it may not work. As for the com1 and com2, chances are you have 2 com ports on your motherboard. If you are not using them, they can be disabled in the BIOS. I can go into more detail on the procedure if you need it. If so, let me know the brand and model of the modem, and the settings you want.
