mod_ssl update

Hey all I am trying to update my mod_ssl package to the latest version. I am relatively new to Apache, and was wondering if there was any special way to update a package, or if I just did it as a regular package install?

when i run rpm -qa i see modssl 2.8.7, but

http://www.modssl.org

lists the latest version as 2.8.12 - my version came packaged with Linux 7.3.

I tried to verify the version with a mod_ssl version and mod_ssl -v but it says command not found. When I go throught the package manager I see mod_ssl 2.8.7 listed but when I try to query - the package information comes up blank, and when I try to verify, the app crashes.

Is the mod_ssl module installed? It wouldn't be listed there if it wasn't right?

Sorry for the dumb questions - like i said i am relatively new to apache.
