MMC Not working

Every time I try and run mmc I get an error message saying;

"MMC cannot open C:\windows\system32\compmgmt.msc

This may be becuase the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may alos be becuase you do not have sufficient access rights to the file."

Any ideas?

Did you try to create a mmc on a different computer and saved that one and then started that at the server where mmc doesn't work? Try that first.

By chance are you dual booting another Windows OS on the same partition? I have seen this error happen in this case also.

no not dual booting, just win srv 2003

all of them use mmc.exe...

as unrelated as it seems, updating IE to latest version, and DirectX too can sometimes repair the strangest of things...
not convinced in this case, but you never know...

checked that, and still no joy. Is there a way to re-install MMC?
