MLT between 2 passport 8600 1

Hello,

I created a MLT between 2 passport8600 (Layer2)with
6 1GB lines.
I am not sure if I must use "access" or "trunk".
What´s the difference?

And I am not sure, if I really have 6 a 6GB link now.
How can I test this?

Do I have to config STG on my trunk?
(I now have 1 STG over all ports on the passport)

Access is not tagged 802.1Q (one VLAN in this MLT) Trunk is tagged 802.1Q (you can have many VLANS in this MLT)


in Device Manager VLANS MLT <highlight one> GRAPH



It will default to STG 1, and unless you want a lot of complexity, best to leave it there, IMHO I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Here is another question about STG:
Our Baystack450 have priority 8000 (default)
And our Passports 8600 have priority 32768 (default)
I heard that the bridge with the lower priority is the root bridge.
Could it be that one of the Baystacks450 is the root bridge?

Yes, as a general rule you want the 'brightest' box making these decisions So chose good two boxes and make one priority 100 and one 1000

Optivity Switch Manager 1.1 (a free download from Nortel if you are on maintenance) has a VLAN manager that will show which MAC addresses are your roots. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Hi,

Bay450 prio 8000 is the same as 8600 prio 32768
8000 in hex = 32768

so root bridge is the one with the lower MAC-Address

in order to have the 8600 as a root bridge, configure the 8600 with a prio of 32000
so all is OK

When I copy one big file(100MB), sometimes it is really fast (12 seconds),
but most of the time i get this ping-timeout.
STG is enabled on all ports
No routing is activated
I tried to use TRUNK or ACCESS.(no change of the problem)
All 100mbit ports are 100-full (also the devices)
All devices connected to Passport1 don´t have problems working with each other.




Do you have any tips how I can solve this problem?

Why do you configure

Spanning Tree.

You are Running OSPF you don't
have to configure Spanning Tree
Because you want a higher Protocol IP

Is there something changing in your Topology
