I have a MLM007 and the system just stop working. I can do a reset on the front of the MLM007 and the voice mail will restart and work for 2-4 days. I get the ERROR Log NO I-VMS PORT IN SERV. I have replaced the power supply for the system. Any ideas?
Sounds like it could be a voice port gone bad or possibly a hard drive problem on the MLM 007. Most often, it is the hard drives on these systems that fails. More rarely, a motherboard or voice port issue. There is a built-in test of the hard drive and voice ports that you can perform by logging through the RS-232 port. There is a previous post of mine discussing a Merlin Mail system that explains the "how to" process. Once logged in, choose "Shut Down Mail system" - once the system shuts down, choose "Test Voice Ports", the choose "Hard Drive Test". Report back any results.
I'm doing this test from a remote site using the modem in the MLM007. When I shut down the system and run tests, can I restart the MLM007 using the restart?
Yes: After you finish the tests - if the "Main Menu" does not reappear - pres "MM" for main menu, the choose "Start system" - I believe it is choice A.
Tested disk and ports and they tested ok. Voice Mail just stops working. If I do a shutdown and restart the system start working again. Then at some point it just quits.
Any other ideas?
Well: Then it could still be either corrupted software on the hard drive or possibly a motherboard issue. Have you tried the VM in a different slot? - just to eliminate that possibility?
If you need further assistance - contact me at my Company URL. Just use my signature (below). My guess is that you have some software corruption on the drive or, worse, a motherboard issue. You may want to try to fully reinitialize the software on the drive - but that will wipe out all of the programming, existing mailboxes, announcements, etc. Thx..tomd
That would be a good way to check one or the other. If you have a known good spare 007 - swap drives and see what happens with each card - with the drives reversed.
Ron: I assume you know how to get the drive out - the 4 nuts - which you have to be careful removing - so the screw embedded in silicon on the flip side doesn't turn, and then 2 to 4 screws on the back of the board holding the drive in place. Tom
No - it should not be - unless your problem is in the circuit board the drive attaches to. But, you are correct - first just swap via the D-ring pull-out - and see what happens.
I printed this from the the status report. What does the PXPH mean in this report by the 7159 out of service?

It means that one of your port cards in the MLM007 is probably defective. If you have a 2-port system, the first port card test will give you the pass/fail test for the 2-ports built into the motherboard. The 2nd port card test result is for the first 2 ports in the middle insert module. The 3rd port card test is for the last two ports of the middle insert - assuming you have a 6-port total system. Did you run the port card test? That will give you a test per port card. To do so, log in, from menu choose system shiutdown (option B I believe), wait for system to shut down and menu to reappear, then choose port test - and see if you get an "OK" for each port card installed.
I tested the ports and disk results is ok. I did change out the 007card and replaced with the hard dive and reused the 2 port expansion card to make it a 4 port system
I will retest the ports tonight and disk.
This is a 4 port system. 7159 is the last pot on the 2 port card that is inserted into the 4-6 port slot on the 007 card.
