Hi
i am using LEGATO 5.5.1 on AIX 4.3.2.
My legato server is running on SP node and it uses STORAGETEK 9710 (DLT7000 drives) dlt lib. to back up various unix and NT hosts.
my question is:

even tho it backs up whole system data...is it possible to boot the server from that tape?? i think its not possible

so i need to take mksysb of unix servers on local tape drives. but my SP nodes doesnt hav any local Tape drive.
so how to take the backup of system image of my sp nodes so that i can restore it in case of system crash.. just like bootable tape (mksysb)???.

is it possible to take mksysb on remote tape drive or on LEGATO system???

please give me some suggetions.

thanks

Nandkumar,

In my humble knowledge,I understand that Legato uses its own format (OpenTape, tm) to write into tapes, and that is why it becomes necessary to have Access to Networker S/w to restore them. This makes your situation a bit tough to attain using NetWorker.

You will have to resort to other AIX specific options to do that.

Cloning is just a copy of the backup tapes. Their main purpose is for off-site storage so that you always have a duplicate copy of your backups off-site.

As far as i know , in unix terminology Clonning means making a system image or bootable tape or disk from the one system image after back up.u can clone the image present on the disk to the other disk and then use that on some other box.

but what u say bout clonning is tottaly diff.
