I'm using an IDE Panasonic CD-RW drive; Linux recognizes the drive as a CD-RW but refuses to write the image file directly to me template CD; even though the documentation say's it should work; does anyone have any ideas as to why it's refusing to work properly for me?
-Robherc
robherc@netzero.net

*nix installation & program collector/reseller. Contact me if you think you've got one that I don't :)

Whew! Where to start. This is a much bigger subject than is obvious on the surface. First your opening for this request says "mkisofs" won't write to your cd. I am almost certain this is true. The man page for mkisofs states that it creates binary images of the iso filesystem. It does not say anything about transfering that file to a media device.
Transfering the file to a media device requires much that resides outside this function. It can be done from the command line but so far I have found it to be much trouble and opted to use xcdroast which is hard enough.
You probably have a bit of work to do to configure the system to communicate to your cdrw as a scsi device.
The readme that comes with xcdroast is a big help here.
