A customer of mine stated that her MWI lamp on her 5320e phone would not stop blinking. She had no messages in her voice mailbox. I did a Loc Fea Ext XXXX and found the extension had 2 Call Me Back messages. I found an old thread in the Mitel Forums. A gentlman advised to go to the extensions COS and set the Callback Message Erasure Allowed to Yes. The next steps were to press the Message key on the set, read/erase the message.

I walked her through this and erased the 2 messages. The MWI lamp has now stopped blinking.

The problem is resolved but I'd like to know what causes this to happen? Is it a random occurrence?

Thank you

Don't assume it is resolved unless it doesn't come back during the 3:00am VM DB Verification.

There are many ways that mailboxes not directly associated with a station can turn on the lamp.

More than likely, you have a mailbox with an unread message turning on the lamp by one of these means.

Slightly less likely is the voicemail is confused and thinks there is a message when there is not.

Either way, tomorrow will tell

Or, the call me back messages could be from other multi-line sets.

If extension 1 calls extension 2 and they don't answer, caller 1 (by default) will have the option on the phone to 'leave message'

Extension 2 now has a flashing light and everyone just assumes it is voicemail.

If you go through the menu on the phone - it will tell you what left the call me back message - voicemail hunt group or an extension.

I usually set the class of service for all phones to enable 'disable send message' so that the 'leave message' prompt is not offered to users - this usually stops phantom voicemail message reports.

Likely what happened IMHO. If you have embedded vm this may go away after a time period, usually doesn't if nupoint as that is a system option setting that should be changed. I think you can dial the off code and your extension number from your extension to turn it off in lieu of reading, :) might have done that to remote sets using the old uca lite tapi.

I followed up with my customer this morning and the MWI lamp was not flashing. jpruder, yes, the system is utilizing embedded VM. I will continue to follow up with my customer over the next few days. If the issue does return, I will update my thread.

Thanks everyone for contributing your input.

If it didn't come back, then you are probably good.

As others have stated, if this happens again, before deleting the lamp, read the message and see where it came from. If it came from VM, then it is likely to return.

There exists a feature code that will make the MWI lamp flash, even without a message in the vmbox

The feature code shows up as dialed message waiting and not a callback message
