WE have a mitel sx2000 system. the past week the operator phone has rang every 10 minutes. I have asked the operator to take note of what extension is calling to try and narrow it down. It seems to happen between 12am and 2am every day. the phone will ring 1 time and stop. If answered, its just dead air.

any ideas of where to start looking?

Alarm System - Not setup to dial proper access code
Meter reading device - Gas/Water/Etc

Enable internal SMDR to capture DN

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

Agreed, its some device that is going off hook and trying to dial something and on being barred I suspect it is getting redirected to the console. Check intercept form to see if that's the case.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

Thanks for the replies! I did check alarms on the main console, but it said there are no alarms.

Can you guide me to where the intercept form is located in the menu tree?

I think I found it. What am I looking for in here? the Intercept handling Assignment looks blank...

If the intercept handling is blank or default reorder tone. That is not it.
The console softkeys will have directory numbers assigned when used and the call will ring in on the key.
For answer points such as main number, operator, voicemail recall.
That said, has the user provided more information calling party id, etc
Did you confirm internal and external smdr are turned on for switchboard's class of service and check the logs?
From that you should be able to spot the culpret.

I spoke with our Mitel vendor and they said that our system does not track calls at all regardless of system settings. External calls can be, but internal is not. I have asked our operator, and she said it says internal, but it goes to fast for her to read the extension number.

If I remembre correctly, there was something on the COS of the voicemail port causing this problem. I will try to find if I still have the solution from Mitel. If you have access to their KB, you souls be able to find il..

The 2k definitely has internal SMDR

You're chasing tails without it

That would be great if you could find the solution!!

How can I enable the SMDR for internal? When I change the setting in the tracking area to yes, it says I must first enable the function.

sorry, I'm new to this system.

As far as I can remember there is an SMDR form where you would enable the options

Then enable the COS options for each station and/or trunk.

The Option to enable SMDR is located in the SMDR options form, it will then need to be enabled in the class of service of all sets and trunks

You first need to look though in Dimensions and Features form, this will show you if the internal SMDR option has been purchased, if not you are out of luck because I have been told by Mitel that you are no longer able to purchase options for the SX2000 (certainly the case in the UK)

Did this fault coincide with any equipment being installed on site? It sounds like a device is trying to poll to an external number in the early hours of the day but is not using the correct ARS access code ie 9, it is dialling the external number which begins with a 0, this is most likely a key on the cosnole or the number of the console itself

Our operator caught the extension number. Its the phone in our elevator...

A prime source for things like this. The issue usually is that the extension is programmed as a hot line. If someone uses the elevator phone it works but because there is no disconnect suppervision on the ONS ports when the operator hangs up the elevator phone doesn't see this and therefore it remains off hook which causes another hotline call.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.
