Mitel SX200 weird dialing issue (on some extensions)

I have a client who is a hotel and has a 2 cabinet Mitel SRX200 system. There is a digital card for the console, and some office phones, and a bunch of analog cards for the rooms (98 room hotel). We have had to replace cards here and there for various issues, and even a controller module failed recently. Luckily I had another multi-console system removed from another clients, and we were able to use that controller to get everything up and running...

Anyway - they had some customers complain about dialing out (who uses a motel phone?) recently, and when poking around, there is indeed an issue. For some extensions (on one card it appears), you can only dial 3 digits and then get fast busy. Other extensions can dial just fine.

With my limited knowledge, I connected and after reading a few forums here, went through all of the COS/routing/restriction options and cannot for the life of me find ANY restrictions. The staff says that at one time, they were limited to local calls only on the rooms, but that hasn't been the case in years. I cannot see anywhere, that there are any restrictions applied to anything, and an extension right next to one that isn't working, will dial any number just fine. I verified that it is the system blocking dialing and NOT the provider, but man, I cannot find it.

Any thoughts or ideas would be great! They are looking at replacing the system, but at $25k to start, they aren't really excited about that. People use the phone less and less, so even having someone use the phone, and then having an issue, is strange.

Thank you all in advance!!!

Typically the COR on guest phones changes upon check-in check-out. This requires interfaces to/from the property management system. To check the current access level of a particular extension your can access the information from the attendant console via the guest room function. The access restriction will be noted by "INT" = internal LCL = local or LD = long distance. You can toggle these values manually via the attendant console interface.

I suppose you're entitled to your opinion, I'm just not going to suppose very hard.

nytalking makes a great point about checking the extensions calling restriction from the console. However, before checking the calling restriction, can you answer the following questions?

Can the extension make internal calls?

Can the extension make local calls?

Can the extension make long distance calls?

Hey guys - sorry about the delay - these messages were in my junk mail folder for some reason. That won't happen anymore.

Anyway - nytalkin makes a good point and I'll check it from the operator extension. If nothing is noted in the COR settings, would the operator extension take precedence? And how do you assign or tell an extension that the operator console would make that change (or is that default behavior?). Although the system has integration ability, I don't think the property bought the "feature" when they upgraded the PMS about a year ago. We have it all connected through a big black modem looking thing, but I think all were getting is CDR logging (which they ignore).

crich01:
We didn't test internal calls - so we will I think I'll be onsite tomorrow
No to both other options. Any 3 digits we dial (although other rooms not tested or I can't remember if we did - was a while ago now) returns the busy signal. I think all we tested was dial 9 stuff. So dial 9, get dialtone, then dial anything and we get busy after 3 digits. 311 is used by our provider for the call announce (where it reads back the number) and it even busy on that.

Thanks!

If nothing is noted in the COR settings, would the operator extension take precedence?" - Yes, I believe so.
"And how do you assign or tell an extension that the operator console would make that change (or is that default behavior?)." It is a system parameter.

Setting Room Call Restrictions from the 5540 IP Console
You can restrict guests from placing local or long distance calls from their room phones. The
procedure you use to set call restrictions depends on whether the hotel/motel is using a Property
Management System.
If the hotel/motel is NOT using a Property Management System
1. Press Function.
2. Press [GUEST ROOM].
3. Dial the room number.
4. Press [STATUS].
5. Do one of the following:
• Press [INTERNAL] to allow internal calls only.
• Press [LOCAL] to allow internal and local calls.
• Press [LONG DIST] to allow internal, local, and long distance calls.
If the hotel/motel is using a Property Management System
1. Press Function.
2. Press [GUEST ROOM].
3. Dial the room number.
4. Press [RESTRICT O/G].
The phone is restricted from making outgoing trunk calls. To remove the restriction and allow
outgoing calls, repeat the procedure.

This can also be done from a 5340e programmed as a subattendant.

Good morning crich01 - can this be done on the old ass SX200 LCD Super Console? This is an old SX200 (non IP) system.

I might be onsite today for a bit, and can possibly shed some additional light, but it's not in stone yet. I can contact the maintenance people there and have them try stuff on the console, but they don't know how to access they system via serial connection.

Thanks!

Thank you very much - we'll give it a shot and I'll report back!!!
