Hi all. Getting rather perplexed. I have a small office here and am trying to connect a Mitel 5220 to the SX-200.

I have hard coded it to be 10.0.99.16/255.255.255.0.

On bootup I have set the IP to be static, and it cannot continue due to a "No Carrier" error. Then it will attempt via DHCP.

DHCP Fails as it have disabled it from the controller.

The controller can be pinged at its IP (10.0.99.3)

The set can only be pinged if it is in the mode to ping from the set.

I suspect something is wrong in how I have set the static address or perhaps how i have defined the settype on the controller itself.

Thanks!

Jim

No Carrier means it does not see the network. Try a different cable or try a different Jack or try plugging straight into the network switch.

Hi, Ok I swapped out the cable and reboot the phone holding the superkey down.

I programmed the phone with an IP and the subnet/gateway as the controller.

Then I programmed the phone to "ping" the controller, results are 5 PINGS SUCCESSFUL so i'm fairly confident that the cable (and switch) are good. FYI I also bypassed the switch with the known good cable and plugged it into the controller, ping results were ok.

Thanks!

Jim

What values are you statically setting?

You're obviously either missing something or setting something you shouldn't.

Ok, still no joy, so here is some settings that might help:

Booting 04.03.00.03
No Carrier Detected
Waiting for DHCP
DHCP: Discover
DHCP: Offer 1 Rej
DHCP: Offer 2 Rej
DHCP: Offer 3 Rej
and keeps on doing this

This indicates to me that the set is on the LAN and is rejecting the dhcp offer from my router.
But that contradicts the "No carrier".

I have bypassed the switch and plugged the phone right into the controller.
I have replaced the LAN cable.
I have swapped out the phone.

Very confused.

You're missing the TFTP Server on the phone.
Set the same as the RTC. (10.0.99.3)

Because you don't set it the phone is trying DHCP to discover it.

Also, the DNS being set the same as the gateway doesn't look right.

The Following setting are mandatory:

IP of the set and mask
TFTP Address
PBX Address (RTC)

In most cases using "Teleworker" setup works well. Reboot the phone while holding button "7" then follow on-screen instructions. This will assume that tftp and controller (Teleworker gateway) reside on the same host. Plus it will grab any ip address offered by DHCP and will not look for any other fancy options besides IP, mask and gateway.

Because you getting "no carrier" message I bet you use an external power adapter instead of PoE switch. I was observing this when connect a phone with a power adapter to a switch with auto-sense ports. Looks like it takes longer for the switch to detect pin-out then the phone to detect absence of signal after it has activated the port.

Hi, ok thanks for the tip, did not know about the 7 key. Yes, you are correct, and I'm not using the "brick" type but a/c adapter type.

The no carrier only last a few seconds and upon putting the TFTP server in, i downloaded something within a few seconds.

One other thing is, how do I generate a report of all the stff the controller has? EG Voice mail boxes/ports, max TCP sets etc.

Thanks again!!

Jim

If you properly configure DHCP server options you don't need to configure phones. They will get all the settings from the network and from your controller. Use the help system on the web interface. It is very comprehencive with all the details you need. The easy way to get information you need is using "Export" on the web interface. there is another way using priter port, which can print out all the forms.
