Hi Guys,

I have a problem where i upgraded a MAS server from release 7.0 to Mitel Standard Linux release 8.0 - when i did this i discovered that i couldn't go into the page where you go to configure users, you get a response stating internal system error.

I need to be able to allocate new users, so i can enable VPN for 4 users.

I decided to re-install Mitel Standard Linux as a complete new install, when i did this i configured the MSL with it's settings, from this point i could go into the page to configure a user - so i thought i had resolved the problem.

However i then activated the Application record id and sync to AMC, the teleworker blade loaded and i configured the Teleworker users, from then on i get the same response (internal system error) and again i'm unable to view the users page.

Have any of you guys had any problems loading the new MSL software?

Yes, My first attempt was like yours and I had issues loading the Blades.

The next attempt I actually read the manual and it says to load the App's from the Application CD. (there are 4 other CD's to download. The first is the Application CD and the others are supposedly language prompts for Nupoint.

It also said that the Mitel Config Wizard must be used to configure the server.

After doing all this mine worked.

Caution, when using the Config Wizard, de-select the 3300 in the final stages unless you want your FAC, COS, COR''s and whatnot overwritten.

It is important to note, there is a difference between MAS and MSL. MSL is what we USE TO call MAS. For clearity:
--> MAS is the Applications Suite which has NuPoint, Tele-Worker and Mobile Extension installed, which is installed on MSL.
--> MSL is Mitel Standard Linux, and is simply the Linux O/S. It can have any of the applications installed mentioned above, but they are not required.

I would encourage you to burn a new ISO image, at very slow speeds. Granted we have not see issues in the past with ISOs burned at normal speeds, however as we add more and more to the O/S (Linux) we are finding techs that burn the CD at the slowest speeds are having way less problems. I know this does not sound like a very good solution (I questioned it myself). I know I had issues after issues in the lab, re-installed and re-installed. After we burned the disk at the slowest possible speed (10x) we had zero issues.

Hi Guys,

I have spoken with Mitel Tech Support this morning - it looks like the software has loaded correctly and the configuration is ok.

Mitel have said that configuration of users is not supported on the MSL server, which means i have had to revert back to version 7.2 - i have it all working how i need it too now.

We use this part of the configuration on nearly most installs as it give us remote access to the customers site, At no point will we be using MSL on any of our installations..... until Mitel change this option.

MSL is required for MAS, so I'm not sure how you are going to not install MSL?

I would personally stay away from MAS - it is designed to make Telephony installs easy for Data guys.

Us "knowledgeable" techs should be using MSL with the standard blades (in my opinion).

TheMitelGuy,

I don't need to install Mitel Standard Linux if I'm installing Mitel Application Server, which i have done this morning - i then downloaded the Teleworker blade.

I have not had to use MSL at all.....

OK sorry.............

I'm not going to install verson 8 as it has features taken away (not supported) whereas version 7 has these features that Mitel customers use.

If you look at the documents, Mitel state version 7 is MAS and version 8 is MSL, they have released version 8 with the MSL name, however as you state these are all on the MSL platform (they are just name differently).......!!!!

Your last statement is correct, the name was changed at 7.0.

MSL is just Lunix
MAS is Lunix + TW + ME + NP

As we grow the applications on the Linux side, you will find the blades become MSL version specific (i.e. NuPoint requires a certian load of MSL). It's starting to get a bit harder to remember all of these...

andy4uk,

In the Remote Access tab how many PPTP clients have you allowed? I take it the users use the VPN app to get back to your network yes?
