Hi all-

I don't know where the handset mute button is on the SS4025 or how to program?

From the manual - it is not clear?

Handset Mute
To mute your handset's microphone during a call:
! Press the Handset Mute feature key.
To restore handset microphone operation:
! Press the Handset Mute feature key again.

We have all kinds of 4025's here - never seen one of these?

Thanks for any help.

System Type?

I would assume the Microphone Mute key serves this purpose when the handset is engaged.

Try pressing the Microphone button while engaged on a call and see what happens.

Hi Again,

Tried pressing microphone while engaged - nothing happened.

Do I need to program the button in key assign?

Thanks,

Guys-

Any other ideas?

So-the SS4025 does not have a mute button or is unable to be programmed?

Can anyone help - please?
Thx.

Maybe you could clarify where in the manual you are finding those instructions.

I cannot find it. The feature Matrix seems to indicate that the mute function is not available on 4025's.

Hi, try this, make a call to your cel or something with the handset hung up EG: press your outdial key (9 or whatever it is) and then dial your number. When connected, the microphone LED will come on (turn red). Before you answer your call, push the microphone button. Does the LED shut off? It should, it it does not, swap the set out with another one. (Swap, do not dial from another station/extension).

I am 100% sure that programming does not disable or enable the MICROPHONE button on the 4025 set.

Please post back.

Hi Jimhilton -

Yes - that works!
The microphone acts as the mute button when pressed before a call is made - I can hear the person on SS4025 from remote end(cell phone).

Then when Mic is turned off(not red/lit) - cannot hear - call is still active and mute is on. I cannot hear them on the cell but they can hear me on SS 420.

Thx.

Ok great, is that very setup to retrieve my voice mail. I need to turn the mic off because sometimes office noise will be picked up and block off the voice mails.

And just for your info, if you are using the hnndset and wish to go hands free, press the speaker button, and then hang up the handset. You will be able to use the mic key to mute.

Thanks for the star too! :)

Jim

Just for clarification.

It sounds like you are muting a handsfree call. Have you successfully muted a call on the handset as per the original request?

Hi kwb, your right, I assumed hands free.

Postpichels, if you are meaning "muting the handset" then you will need to do a bit of programming.

the "handset mute" means if you are on a call using the handset (not hands free), the handset mute key on your 4025 once lit, will mute the microphone on the handset.

For this you need to make a "feature key". A feature key is key that is on the 4025 that does a certain task.

I'm not sure if you can do it from the superkey, but if you can this is how:

press the blue superkey

press a key on the 4025 that is not doing anything.

On the display options will appear. Answer no to all of them until you see something close to handset mute. Select yes, and then cancel to get out of superkey programming.

if you can't do it via superkey then the example I'll outline is for a sx200, but the method should be similar.

login to the controller. go to the form that allows you to change desktop device assignments. find the key that lets you enter the extension, then enter the extension. You should see something similar to "expand set", select that.

then find a key that has speed dial beside it. NOTE: all odd numbered keys are on the right hand side of the 4025 and all even numbered keys are on the left side of the 4025. Also the number go bottom up EG the bottom right key is one the one above it is 3 and on the bottom left that key is 2 and above it 4 etc.

After selecting a key, you will need to flip thru the various options you can assign to a key, when you find "handset mute" select that option.

If you cannot find this option then I think you might have a COS issue, but we'll deal with that if that is the issue.

Exit the editing screen and place a call to your cell or something, once connected blow or speak into the handset microphone. Press the key that you programed for handset mute and if it lights up and you cannot hear yourself you have successfully programed that key.

kwb, please correct me where I have made errors (I realy should fire up that 3300 i got kicking around :)

Well Jim, I can't really say. The system is a 3300 so your experience with the SX-200 doesn't necessarily cross over.

I cannot find the instructions quoted in the original post in the Help Files. What I can find seems to indicate the although muting the handset is possible on some sets, it is not available to 4025's

Family 3 Sets
"SS420, SS4025, SS4125, 5020 IP, 5220 IP, Dual Mode 5220 IP, 5224 IP, 5324 IP, Navigator"

Mute Key Feature availability Vs. Family 3 Sets
5324, 5224 and Navigator only

Guys-

Yes - it was a hands-free call.
I thought I had the handset off-hook when I made the call but actually used the speaker and that works fine.

And in this case - that is what our user(s) usually want for a conference call.
Else, they have a headset that can mute.

Thanks for the details on muting a handset - I will save and try at a later date.

Thanks again!
