Hi All,

I am a total Mitel novice, and have just inherited (by nature of my job) a Mitel 3300 ICP (?) telephone system with voicemail.

I have a couple of very quick simple (hopefully) questions....

I have a 5224 IP Phone, and directly below the LCD screen there are three buttons, two of which do not offer an option when the phone is in it's normal standby mode, the first button is labelled phonebook.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have these two buttons assigned so they are shortcuts for "Voicemail On" and "Voicemail Off" please? Or even if it is possible to have a message displayed on the handsets, i.e. "You Have VMail Msgs"...

I would like to learn a lot more about the system as in my administrative fiddling with it, I don't think I have even began to scratch the surface.

Thanks & Regards!
Mike

For a novice, you sure ask complicated questions.

On a 5224, the answer is no. The keys you are talking about are softkeys. Their functionality is fixed on specific types of sets.

On sets such as 5340's and 5235's these keys are somewhat configurable within limits. (As Idle softkeys only)

Ha ha :) Well I wouldn't want to let the side down, telephone systems are always complicated I thought?

Shame about the keys however but I thought it may be the case...thank you for the quick answer!

All this kind of messages are pretty annoing and normally people are asking how to get rid of it. It looks fancy for demo but not for real production use. Besides that, from my personal experience, when system allows to change the basic functionality it makes a lot of confusing for end-users, who will constantly call support guys for explanations - what does it mean and how to turn it off.
