We have created two mailboxes on each of our Mitel phones. One of the two is logical. The logical mailboxes are assigned a 700 series number. For example, on one 5224 phone there are two mailboxes, mailbox 301 and mailbox 701. When someone calls 701, there is a "canned" voice that says "I'm sorry, Jim is currently on the phone" even though the person is not even in the building or on the phone. I can't find a way to change this default message.

Our PBX is a SX-200.

if you make 701 a phantom i.e. program the extension on a phantom bay should work. If no phantom bay create one

If you are on an ICP you can use a Phantom bay as described above. Sets programmed in phantom bays ignore the "Busy Out" status that is due to their not being connection hardware.

On older systems you need to create a Multikey phone on a real/active port. Turn of the COS Option "display Prime line of Extension when forwarding" and create key lines for all your virtual extensions. This assumes all the virtual ext's will be forwarded to the same destination i.e. VM. You can extend the number of keys on the set by adding PKM's.

Consistancy... Is only a virtue when you're not a total screwup.

You guys - thanks for your very quick response! I will forward this to the engineer and see what he thinks.
