Good morning,

I have an issue with a remote extension.

I have a customer that has a Mitel 3300 MCD (Version 5.0) on their main site, they have a remote site that we have installed a Mitel IP Phone 5330 handset - the handset boots up ok and registers with the Mitel system.

We can receive and make outgoing calls across the ISDN 30 connections, this works fine - we can call the voicemail, this works fine.......

However when we try to call an extension on the main site - there is no speach in either direction when you pick-up the handpeice....... out of about 20 test calls we have had approx 3 calls which worked fine and we got speach in both directions.

The VPN's between the sites are provided through Sonicwalls.

I have checked all the routing, and have also made sure that the Mitel system and all the Mitel handsets have the correct default gateway.

Has anyone else had the same problem?

Thanks

Andy

You have an issue with the ports in your Sonicwalls. You need to allow connections from your remote devices IP address to the IP address of any phone. If you can call out then the firwall is allowing connections from your IP to the 3300's IP. If you can call the voicemail then the Sonicwall is allowing you to connect to the IP of the voicemail which is most likely on the same subnet as the 3300 or if its embedded then its the same IP as the 3300. When you call an IP set then you first connect to the 3300 to setup the call but as soon as the inside party answers then you are trying to stream voice between the IP address of the remote phone and the IP address of the local phone. This is what is getting barred by the Sonicwall. Most likely the phones are on a different subnet then the 3300 and voicemail and you have not configured the sonicwall product to allow that.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

Hi LoopyLou,

That was my thought too - just needed someone else to more or less confirm.

It sorts of makes sense, as thats why sometimes the speach is getting through (as the Sonicwall is using a different port for each call)

Thanks

Andy

Can you always get to a particular phone? Could be that some subnets containing your phones are defined and others may not be.
