I recently took over support of a Mitel SX200 with an Express Messenger card that I cannot access. I have tried the defaults with no success. The serial port is set to 'Express Manager'. When I try to connect with the software it appears to connect then responds with an Error 21 which state communication error, but documentation state Error 21 as 'Your passcode is incorrect'. From set programming I changed both Admin and Manager passcodes so I'm sure they are right.
All this to get access to figure out why PMS is not working (I did change the port to PMS when testing it).
Any thoughts or help are appreciated.

It might be possible to provide you with the technicians passcode. However, I am reluctant to do so for many reasons. Hopefully just telling you there is one is enough.

I have the technicians passcode but I am still failing. I believe I have the right connection (Null cable) and the right passcode (8xxx). The manager software is 4.0. Is there any thing else I can check before I have to consider that it is the Express Messenger card itself?

Does the tech passcode work on the telephone interface?

Curious, Just how do you think gaining access via the manager will help?

I can access the the phone and made sure both were passcode were the same for now. The trouble I am trying to fix is with the PMS output, or lack of, from voicemail. I don't know why I'm not getting anything on my PMS screen and was hoping I could find out something more from the manager screens.

There is nothing in the manager screens that relates to the PMS output. It can only be turned on/off via TUI access thru the Admin mailbox. There are 2 choices - HIS or Encore. The HIS interface talks @ 2400/e/7/1. The encore interface talks at 1200/e/7/1. Find yourself a com package that will show control characters and connect to the maint port and type CTRL-E. The system should respond with and ACK or NAK. Not positive it will but worth the try. Most likely problem is the interface is set to the wrong type. Not much else can go wrong.

Additionally, as I type this, I vaguely remember that turning on PMS disables the manager screen. Very vaguely.

yes, if the serial port is set to PMS interface, then you can't use express manager to connect on that port.
your choices are
1 - disable the PMS on the serial port using the TUI and then connect
2 - use a modem connection. (which is only 2400 baud)

but seriously, you can do all that you need to do though the admin mailbox with the TUI.

I have changed the serial port to manager when I was trying to log in with manger program, and changed to PMS (Hyatt is option 2) when trying to get output on customers PMS software as well as the PMS emulator software (PMSEMU)I have on my laptop. With the emulator software I click connect and it appears to connect, but when I send any function such as ACK I get "no response from the PBX". I want to confirm somehow that my serial port is good or bad by getting either PMS or Manager to talk.
