my mitel 5550ip console is not getting address fom the icp but the other ip phones got it.Assigning static ip on the icp is failing. How can I get the console to work?

Yeah turf that subnet mask you have of 192.168.1.0 and replace it with 255.255.255.0

And while where here, make sure you know what the gateway is too.

go back to the maint port and at the --> type (case is important) either BootConfig or Bootconfig or something like that.

Verify all your IP settings host, gateway everything.

Jim

Ignore my previous post, the command you want is:

bootChange and then hit enter

Also for us to check, type the command

version and then hit enter

and post the results here.

Jim

ICP 192.168.1.2
Gateway 192.168.1.1
Subnet 192.168.1.0
bootChange is giving me the option to either boot the the ICP from its hard drive or from the Laptop. So which is which?

ICP 192.168.1.2
Gateway 192.168.1.1 Note that this is the only gateway
Subnet 192.168.1.0

Hit enter on the prompts that you do not need to change. Eventually you will end up in the IP settings, you want to change subnet to 255.255.255.0 OR if it shows the controller (RCP) as 192.168.1.2 <hex code> then change it to the same ip as the controller and ffffffff00 for the subnet.

You might want to hit enter on everything the first time to check out all the fields.

Jim

choose to boot from the the controller.

Only change the subnet setting.

Actually maybe before even playing in the config, type the

version

command, you should get output similar to this:

-> version
VxWorks (for Mitel MMC-B PPC82XX F1000) version 5.5.2.
Kernel: WIND version 2.6.
Made on Jan 8 2008, 10:20:45.
Boot line:
ata=0(0,0)bootHost:/partition1/Rtc8260 e=10.0.99.3:ffffff00 b=10.0.99.4:ffffff00 h=10.0.99.1 g=10.0.99.1 u=mn3300 pw=mn3300 tn=Dev01 o=motfcc
value = 153 = 0x99
->

and post the result here.

also I think i gave you 2 to many ff's ff ff ff 00 <no spaces>

Ok, looks like your h is missing (I think its DNS), from my programming I suspect that is your router so it should be the same as your gateway.

Your subnet is ok, with your laptop, can it obtain a DHCP ip? if so go into DOS and type ipconfig or to make it a .txt file type (in DOS) ipconfig >c:\ipstuff.txt and post results here (only if your laptop can obtain a DHCP IP.

Thanks

Jim

Also, dud you set the console with a static ip? From my reading it sounds like its a software based system. Does it run in windows?

Jim

Its running on windows xp.My laptop can get ip from the ICP DHCP server but when I check the laptop ipconfig under Dos it has a subnet of 255.255.255.0 Does this matter?

Thats what it should be your subnet (the ffffff00 in your verify command) tells me that its the same subnet.

Ok more diags, from DOS type

ipconfig /all >c:\ipstuff.txt

That will put a file called ipstuff.txt in your c:\ folder, post the results here, I'm trying to rule out network stuff at this stage.

Thanks

Jim

xxShow,

Can you confirm the following:

1. When the Console keypad is connected does the LED light go out? (this was asked beofre but never answered)

2. Have you assigned the Static IP Address in the DHCP along with the MAC address of the keypad and the protocol set to BOOTP or DHCP?

3. Have you set up your IP Console Configeration form with the same MAC address as in your Static form?

4. When running the configuration wizard, the MAC address is the same as in points 2 and 3?

The 5550 IP console on version 8 should be running version 3, but it should not effect it from working.

Heya Mitel100, I'm thinking he's got some sort of LAN issue, something went sideways without explanation, then he activated his vLan, which bonked out the IP sets, he was able to restore the sets, and it seems he's back to square one again.

I was able to give him some basic info on how to set the console to a static IP, but got no confirmation if he did that or not.

The other items you mentioned I did not know about so glad you jumped in.

Jim

JimHilton,

No worries, I have installed so many of these and know that things can go wrong with these. But depending on the answer of my question one, will show where the fault lies.

As if the LED light does not go out then the keypad has not been able to download it's firmware from the 3300, which would indicate a connectivity issue.

If the LED does go out, then we know that there is a configeration/setup issue on the 3300 or the PC.

Well thats what I'm wondering, I ran into a similar? issue wiht an IP set where the simple resolve was setting the TFTP server.

Fixed all issues, does the keypad (or whatever device it is) need a TFTP conection?

If you check his verify output, it looks like a couple of settings are missing. I may have mislead him into thinking that one of the settings was a DNS server where it could be the TFTP server.

Thinking out loud and i tell ya its pretty late :)

Jim

Ok, I have installed a V2 5550 IP Console in my lab with a 3300 running version 8.0.8.8 and it works fine.

The console is connected directly to the 3300 and the PC is connected to the Keypad.

My only suggestion is to download the 5550 IP software of 3.2.1.18 which is supported for 3300's running V8.

I had the same issue with the 5550 console on a brand new 3300. In the end simple as it sounds had to remove the console software from the PC, then enter the console keypad MAC address into the IP console config form.

Connect the console and PC directly to the 3300 to eliminate any network stuff.

reinstall the software and run set up.

Wait for the DCHP to assign an IP address.

Apologies if I am being too simplistic but it's worth trying

I had exactly the same problem and followed the procedure noted by floppy1.

Followed James1982 idea.It worked out. Thanks to all the help.
