Hello All,

I configured the MITEL 5505 worked all fine. However, now when it is out at the customer site it shows an error saying "missing options 129"

Not sure what's wrong with it ? please advise

Hi Smarty,

I'm no Mitel afficionado but I think you need to check your sites DHCP option settings (be these on on the Mitel controller or external server) and double check that option 129 has the correct information in it.

(I'm not sure what the correct information might be).

Ooops, sorry, didn't read that right. Has the customer got option 125 set on their DHCP server or is DHCP being done by the Mitel?

Setup is as below
Modem ---> Switch ---> Mitel Phone and It gets the IP from modem/switch at the site. Am quite sure DHCP is enabled on both modem and switch coz Internet for a PC works just fine !!! I wonder what is stopping it from getting an IP

The Mitel Phone needs specific options enabled in DHCP

128 = TFTP server Address (address of controller)
129 = RTC server Address (address of controller)
130 = Text String "MITEL IP PHONE"
132 = VLAN ID
133 = QOS

or

125 = Array that has all of the above

You might be best served by statically assigning (if the 5505 allows that)

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

@wireman50: Mitel 5505 talks to Mitel Communications Director (MCD).

@kwbMitel: I will be trying to statically assign the IP today, not sure if it has such an option.

Weird part is if you plug a 5312,5212 it works just fine. It's just 5505 which isn't getting an IP.

Isn't the 5505 a SIP phone, if so option 125 isn't going to help you.
As kwbMitel said, try static.

Statically assigned IP address to the device and its Now showing "DHCP discovery" for last 1 hour. But not getting an IP address.

It's getting weird and weird

Hmm, is the modem/switch a full DHCP server? Has it got option 125 set in it or options 128/128/130 in it? Have you programmed the MCD with the correct device in User form at the site? (stupid questions I know but all relevant). Yes itys a SIP device. Still needs a IP address though...Option 129 tells the device where to look for a 3300 so may still be relevant (if option 125 not set). My feeling is programming is wrong on the MCD on the site where you have sent it or the DHCP server is incorrectly programmed...don't suppose there is a Vlan at the site is there?
