Mitel 5330 phone won't boot

Over the weekend, one of my 5330 phones decided to just give up. When my coworker came in, the display was full brightness, with nothing on the LCD. Rebooting it does nothing other than turn the backlight on. Trying to get into the settings at boot does nothing.

Any ideas on what I might be able to do with this. Seems like a waste to make it an expensive paper weight.

How old is the phone and where did you get it from. Many distributers have a warranty on sets for a period of time. As well it could be sent in for repairs.

It's about 2 years old, and our vendor that we bought if from only has a 1 year warranty. I called them, and they were no help, sadly.

[sad]Power brick, swap it.
POE, try moving set to different port.
Doing so will confirm the set has bit the dust.
No service contract

Yeah you might be hooped then. Nothing I can think of anyway, sounds like the display went.

So during the boot process you see nothing on the screen? Yes I would think the phone has an issue.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Yeah, nothing comes up on the screen. Just the backlight. Leaving it for any length of time does not get the phone on the network, and none of the button lights activate. I tried moving it to a different port on the PoE switch, which resulted in no difference.

My boss ordered a couple of refurbished 5340s to replace this one and have a spare (not bad for $179/each). Maybe I'll take this one apart and see if there's anything noticeably wrong with it, out of curiosity.

Now that I think about it we had a site where brand new sets out of the box had their displays brightness cranked up so high you couldn't read it. Had to lower the brightness ( or the contrast ) before we can pin. Do you think someone was playing silly buggers and was playing with the settings? Any chance you could go through the motions to change the contrast/brightness ( would need two sets side by each I would think ).

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

If it were the contrast alone I'd imagine that it would connect to the network/Mitel 5000 and act like a phone. Since it doesn't do that, there's more than just the contract being all the way up. To be honest, I'm not sure how you'd even try and set the contrast without it being connected to the Mitel.

In comparing my 5330 to the dead 5330, it seems that it never gets to the point where it's loaded it's firmware (where it shows the Mitel logo on the screen). I get the same backlight on, nobody's home, on my phone for a few seconds, then the logo splashes and it does all it's connect to network/Minet stuff. The dead one, just backlight before the splash.

Its dead Jim ( startrek reference ).

The beatings will continue until morale improves.
