We recently migrated several of our phones to a variety of IP devices (5212/24 5340/60). We purchased a 5310 unit last week. Can this unit be field deployed with out the side control unit? Also, can this unit be powered by POE switches as opposed to a power supply?

5310 is the designation of a phone with an attached side unit. The type of phone involved depends on the age of the side unit. A phone without a side unit is just that, a phone. All requirements to run a phone apply.

Kwb sorry if I wasn't specific enough. I want to attach the conference unit to an IP telephone. Do I need the side control unit and can I power the 5310 with POE as opposed to an adapter??

The answer is different depending on the type of unit. The older units need direct power.

The newer units, with the module installed in the back of the phone, do not.
