Does anyone know if it is possible (or necessary) to restrict the VM on the 5000?

If so, how?

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

It is possible to restrict certain application only a certain amount of channels, say if you had four external lines all answered by an Auto Attendant and 8 VM ports.

Set up a Timeslot called AA and give it 4 channels.
Set up a Time slot called VM and give it 4 channels.

Assign timeslot VM to your VM Retrieve application and assign timeslot AA to your STARS or incoming CRA applications.

This would split up your VM channel allocation and make sure that all four incoming lines could be answered by the Auto Attendant.

Saying that i've never ever had to do this even on some fairly busy systems.

I don't think that answers the question I meant to ask.

I am speaking about retricting the outbound calling of the voicemail so that it cannot dial toll calls.

By default the VM doesn't notify external parties, it can be enabled to do this using external notification and configuring the external number.

There is no 'dial through' ability if this is what you mean?

Yes, This is what I am looking for.

I am an expert on most Mitel Systems but I'm just getting into the 5000.

I always restrict voicemail ports on all of my systems and it has saved my customers numerous times from hacking attenpts.

I am not comfortable not knowing how to do this on the 5000.

It would be quite unusual in my experience for the voicemail to be incapable in this regard.

The only way to dial through on a 5000 is via Mobile Twinning or DISA, neither is configurable from the VM.

You can only configure a DDI to be a DISA destination via Session Manager.

You can configure Twinning via Session Manager, Config Assistant or User Portal however.

Always best practice when trying to harden your system against toll fraud to examine the capabilities of the VM and what can be dialled through it. Good to see some info for the 5000 as I also am not that familiar with the product.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

To answer the original question.

Yes, you can apply a Class of Service to the Voicemail Application, to restrict what external numbers it can dial.

@anothersupportmonkey

There were two original questions. You missed "If so. How?"

Looks like the only Voicemail Application you can assign COS to is a Message Notification/Retrieval.

Correct because that's the only VM app that can dial out, and then it only Notifies you that you have a message, you can't dial through.
